Fabric Drum Lampshade Workshop - Saturday November 2, 2024 - Smith Falls

This is a beginner workshop to learn the art of lampshade making.  You will leave with your own unique 20 cm diameter drum lampshade.  This size of shade can be used as a hanging pendant or on a lamp base of your choice. You will be instructed on how to apply the PVC to get the best of your material, how to attach the rings and create neat rolled edges (no glue or sewing) and other tips, tricks and techniques.  Following this class, you will be ready to attend an advanced class or purchase supplies to make another lampshade on your own.

Cost:  $ 50    

Registration:  Book in advance, as there are a limited number of spaces for this workshop (minimum four, maximum six participants). We require full payment in advance to secure your booking.

Included:  The workshop fee includes PVC, rings, tools and supplies to make a 20 cm drum lampshade.  

Not Included:  Fabric for your lampshade is not included in the workshop price. You will need to bring a 75cm X 25cm / 30 inch X 10 inch piece of fabric minimum, ironed if possible.   If your fabric choice has a distinct pattern you may wish to bring a larger piece of fabric to optimize the design. Most people like to individualize their lampshade by using a fabric they already have that may match their décor or purchasing one they love. We also have several of our fabrics available to purchase, for an additional fee of    $ 5.00.  See (1, 2)

Cancellations:  If you are unable to attend your class, please let us know as soon as possible.  Cancellations made up to 7 days before the class will receive a full refund.  Cancellations made within 7 days, or failure to show up for your class, will not be eligible for a refund. In any circumstance where a class is cancelled by Oatcake Supply Company, we will attempt to contact you in advance as soon as possible to either reschedule or offer a full refund, as you prefer.

 (1) Your fabric should be a light to medium weight cotton, linen or polyester cotton. Fabrics with very loose weave, stretch, uneven or shinny surfaces are not suitable. Drapery fabric is the best. Not upholstery.  Also, if you have a fabric that has a distinct top and bottom to the design you should know in advance of the workshop what lamp you will be attaching it to.  It makes a difference on how you position the rings.
