My story...

Hi I'm Rebecca. Sole owner and worker-bee🐝 at Oatcake Supply Company located in Ottawa, Ontario. I've been in the business of making custom fabric lampshades for a  little over a year now and loving it! I hope you find something in my shop you love as well <3

Making patterned lampshades of fabric and paper is a very BRITISH thing. So is eating Oatcakes. And a great excuse to buy fabric.

In early 2020 I started to follow a lampshade maker in the U.K. who my cousin in South England knew. I just loved the variety of fabrics she used, the simple design of a drum lampshade and all the possibilities. I figured out who her supplier was for rings and backing and ordered a kit to try one myself. (Check out Dannells here)

I was hooked and ordered more supplies from the U.K. I made shades for numerous lamps in my home that needed updating. I bought many used lamps to refurbish for my cottage and family members. Then I went big and opened Oatcake Supply Company to sell my shades.

My goal has always been to show others that custom lampshades are another option available to you to elevate your home decor. To accessorize, bring in a great print and/or colour or match something you already have in a room. Much the way we so often do with pillows

I enjoy finding really unique fabrics to make lampshades with. I especially enjoy working with clients on custom lampshades, providing them with fabric options or using their own fabrics. The best is when we save a lamp or a portion of a lampshade from the landfill, and give it new life.

As for Oatcakes and my shop's name. I am part British and have spent some time living on that side of the pond. To me an Oatcake is both a basic staple cracker but can easily be turned into a posh appetizer. A blank slate to be elevated. A little bit like my lampshades.
