Fabric shades are generally made from cotton/poly material. Lampshades are not meant to be washed or placed in water. In the unlikely event you need to clean your lampshade, gently wipe with a damp cloth, water only. My suggestion is to vacuum regularly to prevent them from getting dirty.

Lampshades will fit three types of lamps. By default the shade will fit a U.K. lamp. Each order includes a ring insert that will adapt the space to fit a E.U. lamp. If you need to fit a U.S. harp/finial lamp you can say so on your order and I will include an additional insert for the ring.

UK the opening measures 1 5/8 inches/4 cm.
Euro insert will give you an opening of 1 1/8 inch/2.8 cm.
U.S. insert will make the opening 3/8 inch/ 1 cm.

Oatcake Supply Company will ship with 48 hours if the item you choose is in stock. If it needs to be made, it may take up to two weeks.

Ultimately it comes down to your personal preference but the following guidelines will help.

To determine the height of your shade, measure the height of your lamp (from just below the bulb holder to the base). The height of your shade should be approx. 1/2 the height of your lamp.

To determine the diameter of your shade, measure the diameter of your lamp base. The diameter of the shade should be as a minimum twice the size of the lamp base.

Also, if you are buying a shade to put on a harp/finial lamp, measure the height from the bottom of the bulb to the bottom on the finial.  Some lamps have a 9" high harp for which our standard shade may not fit.  We always custom a shade.
